Volume 2 : East Asia in Late Antiquity (300CE to 900CE)

Edited by Pablo Blitstein and Christopher Gerteis

Late antiquity built upon the era characterized by the re-stabilization of the imperial state during the Tang dynasty (618 CE – 906 CE). By far the introduction of Buddhism to East Asia had the greatest impact, and the East Asian contribution to the doctrines that had originated in Northern India saw both integration of new worldviews and compelled the re-formulation of East Asia’s cultural and political settings. The Tang dynasty was the culmination of several hundred years of cultural integration and re-stabilization.
